This Stupid Patent of the Month is a bit of a special treat. For one, it’s timely - just granted this month. Secondly, it’s a design patent, which we have yet to cover. Without further ado, meet USD670713. The gem grants Apple Inc. the exclusive right to use page turning animations in software. Is it as absurd as it sounds? You take a good look at the diagrams and get back to me on that.

The patent closes with, “The process or period in which one image transitions to another forms no part of the claimed design.” Apple wanted to be positive that they own page turning no matter how or why it is accomplished. How’s that for a novel, non-obvious, non-trivial concept?
