Meet patent US5443046: “METHOD OF EXERCISING A CAT”. The ‘invention’ is a method of playing with a cat. Seriously. Point a laser beam at the ground, encouraging a cat to chase after it. Genius. This is prime example of how effectively the USPTO limits patents to non-obvious and non-trivial concepts.

Go on, read it. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
